FairWineAward: Harmony of Wine Enjoyment and Quality in the Natural Realm
The world of viticulture faced more significant challenges than ever before. With the looming threat of climate change, innovative solutions were crucial to ensure the future of winemaking. The questions were: How could we confront climate change? How could we foster a wine industry that was environmentally friendly while simultaneously minimizing the use of pesticides? Wine producers had long acknowledged these challenges and diligently addressed them. However, many of these efforts often took place behind the scenes. But that changed.
Introducing the FairWineAward: a platform for these dedicated vintners. After a successful debut at the new wine trade fair EUROVINO in Karlsruhe in March 2023, the FairWineAward returned for its second iteration in autumn 2023.
An esteemed panel of experts, led by Dr. Hermann Pilz from Landau and renowned sommelier Claudia Stern from Cologne, tasted and evaluated the submitted wines in September 2023. The anticipation built up as everyone awaited the announcement of the winning wines, which were honored on October 10, 2023, at 12:30 pm on the "Organic on Stage" platform during Anuga (October 07-11), captivating an enthusiastic audience.
Recognition for Winemakers
The FairWineAward, in line with Section 30, Paragraph 6, Sentence 2 of the Wine Regulation, offered a unique distinction to the participating winemakers. The accolades they earned could be prominently showcased on labels, price lists, and advertisements from the start of the new viticultural year, serving as a genuine testament to the competition's high-quality standard.
Companies in the wine and sparkling wine sector that fulfilled the competition criteria were eligible to participate. They seized the chance and submitted their entries to the FairWineAward; the cut-off was September 5, 2023.
